Adventure Details
A 4wd track up the Makaroro River, from the historic mill site at the end of Wakarara Rd up the riverbed to Barlow Hut. The brave can venture a bit further upstream, I found the 4wd tracks ran out about 1km past Barlow Hut.
Barlow Hut is a tidy 8-bunk DOC hut that is a great spot to for an overnight stay.
As this track follows the braided riverbed, there are multiple water crossings, though most are small as the catchment above is relatively small.
